Courts Open
The Tomaree Squash Club was established at its current location at Shoal Bay in 1997 when a number of diehard squash players from the now long demolished Nelson Bay courts, were seeking new courts to call home. The only remaining courts on the entire peninsula were the 2 long unused and somewhat unloved courts we currently call home. Initially 40 members joined the new club, with their help the squash centre was rejuvenated. Volunteer help was enlisted to clean and paint the centre, a beer fridge was brought in and the club was born.
The club a grown steadily over the years which now boasts up to 70 members, many of whom have been with the club since its 1997 inception. A hardworking committee ensure we run 4 competitions each year including a Club Championship, and last year with the help of our members the club held the first ever Nelson Bay Squash Open which attracted top class players from across the State as well as a strong contingent of local players.
The clubs ongoing fundraising efforts have allowed us to gradually improve the centre. We have installed a brand new floor on one court and have committed to replacing another this year. Our junior programs have produced a number of quality players including State and National representatives. We have a number of senior members committed to helping our juniors improve their game.
If you are looking to play squash in a friendly relaxed atmosphere in a club with great camaraderie, then please send us an email or just call in on Thursday competition night or Tuesday practice night and say hello. We have competitions for every age and every level. You are more than welcome.
